August trip to Bend

We had the week before Fam Jam at the condo so we took an extended vacation to do both. What's really nice is that owner's can bring their pets, so we didn't have to worry about where Brody would go while we were gone for so long. We got there Friday night and had a few days of nice weather to hang out at the pool, go to a car show downtown, and float the river which we had never done before. It's a pretty slick deal and you really can float down on whatever you want (we saw tubes, canoes, air mattresses and a floating swan!), there are no rapids and it's slow moving. We had been given the idea to start below the damn at McKay Park then get out at Drake Park where they have a shuttle that takes you to the beginning at Riverbend Park, then float down to where the car was parked. I think we paid $2.50/person for Brian and I (the kids were free) and if you want to go multiple times it's $3.50 for the day. It's a great deal and they have a trailer to put your float in. I'm glad we did it before lunch, though, even on a Monday there was a huge line to get on the bus when we were done. We had a lot of fun and it probably only took us a little over and hour (about as much time getting our canoe blown up, but that's another story!) On Tuesday the weather turned and we had scattered thunderstorms, so we took the kids to see "Rio 2" in the Mill District. One Tues and Wed mornings at 10am they have movies playing for $1, couldn't pass up that deal! Plus it was a fun thing to do on a rainy day and as an added bonus they have Ben and Jerry's right next door with tons of gluten free flavors! Wednesday we were able to get out between storms and took a hike along the Deschutes River (also something we had never done). There is a trail right from our condo that some take all the way to Sun River. We only took the trail to "Big Eddy", which was about 3 hours round trip, but totally worth it! We even got to see a few rafters go down the class IV rapids! We weren't very prepared since we thought we were just going for a short walk down to the pond, but the kids did great and it was an awesome discovery. It's definately something we'll do again (just a little more prepared with snacks, bug spray, and suncreen next time!) That night we took a drive up to Benham and Dillon Falls which are absolutely stunning. I could sit there for hours and watch the water. Thursday we left for Fam Jam and were kind of worried about the weather. It rained on the way over, but cleared up as we pulled into the campground and ended up being gorgeous for the rest of the weekend.

Car show at Drake Park in Bend. Of course we had to take a picture next to a pink Cadillac

Apparently this is a very rare car,  I'll have to add what it is later.

Lately Isaiah loves to walk Brody and he had plenty of opportunity each morning at 7th Mtn
