We had another wonderful Christmas this year! The kids were so excited about Santa, they couldn't wait to see what he had brought them. The first thing Ashley noticed was that Santa ate all the cookies she set out for him, drank his milk, gave the carrots to the reindeer... and he left a note! The rest of the family came over at 8:30 to open gifts, but since that was way too long to wait the kids got to open what Santa brought, new bikes and lots of goodies for their stocking. Isaiah really got into it this year copying Ashely's excitement when she opened her gifts. Then when Grammy, Grandpa and Uncle Dan all joined us at 8:30, the real fun began. There were a ton of gifts to open! We weren't done until 11:30. We were all starving and quickly devoured the delicious Christmas breakfast that Papa made. After breakfast we played with all of our new toys, took a nap and got ready for Christmas dinner at Grammy and Grandpa's. They put on a spread and it was a great way to end the holiday, good food and family that we love and adore so much! One of the most special moments I want to remember is Ashley requesting that we sing "Happy Birthday" to Jesus. You could tell that she was waiting for the perfect moment. It wasn't during dinner but just after when we were all sitting around the table enjoying good conversation and being together that she saw the perfect opportunity for us all to sing with her and remember what we were celebrating that day. Her face was bright and I could see the Christmas spirit fill the room. It was magical! She really gets that this is the reason we celebrate Christmas. Its celebrating his birth and the giving that's most important, the rest is just icing on the cake!

Santa brought the kids new bikes this year!
The Christmas pickle. Gram made this for us earlier in the year. It has a tradition where you hide the pickle in the Christmas tree. Ashley was in charge of hiding if Christmas Eve. Well, she had a little help from Grandpa who is tall and can get behind the tree (cheater!) so it took us forever to find it. Brian gave up, but I was determined. With a little help from the game "hot, cold" I finally found it!

Ashley made this at school and gave it to us for Christmas. It says " I think you're sweet as candy. Your love always makes me smile. Please keep these hands to remind you of when I was a sweet small child."
There is a story behind this picture, do you notice that Brian's sweater only has one arm? Brian gives Grammy a hard time because she's knitted a sweater for the kids and I, but not him. When we pulled names for Christmas this year Grammy got Brian, so she knew right away what she was going to give him... a sweater! So, she stayed up past midnight many nights trying to get it done before Christmas morning. She had it all done except for one arm. So, she wrapped it the way it was and didn't say anything. She got a good laugh when Brian opened this.

It was a wonderful Christmas, Emily, and we are all so very blessed to be able to celebrate with our loved ones (and thinking of the ones who couldn't join us) Ashley leading us in Happy Birthday Jesus has to be my favorite part of our Christmas. Next year Isaiah will be leading with her. Thanks for all the wonderful memories that get better with each year.
